Protest Rally to take place in front of DG Trade, Brussels on Thursday

EU and US civil society organisations join forces to protest against corporate take over in TTIP

Five civil society organisations from the US and EU will join forces on Thursday to protest against the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership, which they believe is driven by the interests of big business and will attack social, environmental and economic standards on both sides of the Atlantic.
The demonstration will take place on Thursday March 13 in Brussels outside DG Trade as the 4th round negotiations between the EU and US draw to a close. Citing worrying concerns that talks are taking place behind closed doors, the groups say citizens are relying only on leaked documents to reveal the true intentions of big business and governments, while plans under TTIP would reduce the influence of elected parliaments in the future.
"We, the citizens of Europe and North America – farmers, trade unions, social movements, activists, artists, environmentalists, unemployed – reject this EU-US-corporate attack on transatlantic solidarity and call on the European Commission and Trade Commissioner Karel De Gucht to do the same: Listen to the people and say No TTIP, no corporate take-over!"
