TTIP and the Investment Dimension: What is the State of Play?

UK event with keynote remark from Karel De Gucht, European Commissioner for Trade

BritishAmerican Business (BAB) will host the European Trade Commissioner, Karel De Gucht,at Thomson Reuters in Canary Wharf on Tuesday 24th June 2014 on the topical question: “TTIP and the Investment Dimension – What is the State of Play?”.

The Commissioner will deliver keynote remarks on issues raised by a public consultation on the protection of investments in TTIP. The Commission’s consultation is coming to a close, yet many questions remain unanswered. In particular, it is unclear how the Council of Ministers will decide on individual substantive provisions and the inclusion of an investor-state dispute settlement (ISDS) mechanism in an EU/US trade deal.

Following his keynote, the Commissioner will be joined by a panel of experts from the business and legal community, who will explore key aspects of the EU and US investment protection regimes. Under the title “Improving ISDS to Protect Investments”, the panel discussion will consider how important ISDS is to TTIP, and whether a TTIP without ISDS is feasible or desirable.

Panellists Include

  • Wolf Von Kumberg, European Legal Director and Assistant General Counsel, Northrop Grumman Corporation
