Commission to host stakeholder meeting on investment protection in TTIP
The European Commission will host a stakeholder meeting on investor protection in TTIP, which includes the controversial Investor State Dispute Settlement (ISDS), a mechanism allowing multinationals to sue countries for loss of profits if new social or environmental laws are passed.
The event, hosted by DG Trade, forms part of the Commission’s public relations drive in light of growing public opposition to extra-constitutional rights for investors proposed in TTIP. It will include a presentation on the online public consultation which was launched at the end of March and will run until mid-June. The online questionnaire has been roundly criticised by civil society as not addressing the core concerns the public has on ISDS, as well as being inaccessible for ordinary members of the public.
The event will take place on Tuesday 13 May from 10.00 to 12.00 at the Charlemagne Building, Rue de la Loi 170.
